Fat Run

Fat Run was a game created by me and three other members. I was the lead desingerproject leader and scripter. The opening, menu and level was built by me.

You walk around on a scrolling map which constantly goes down as chefs throw food at you from the sides. The game revolves around the player managing their hunger bar by both avoiding and collecting food in order to keep the meter in the middle. If you like living on the edge the player can try to balance the bar close to the ends which will grant the player bonus score. The player dies if you don’t eat enough food by dissolving (starving), or if you eat too much you will explode from overeating. The game is endless so once you die you get your final score. Over time it becomes harder as more and more chefs appear to feed you. If you’re too full to collect food and there’s nowhere to run you can use your tennis racket to reflect the food. The reflect will give you full frontal shield. Once used, the racket will go on cooldown until it can be used again. The game tracks the score so players can compete for the high score.

We wanted to go for a very humorous style and built the game accordingly. You can already acknowledge our agenda from the opening scene and menu. The game humor is partially inspired by Monty Python Flying Circus.

The reflection mechanic was implemented to give the player some help and also breathing room under stressful situations. It is also good to use for managing the hunger bar.
